Your Day At Wellpoint
When you arrive at Wellpoint Health Services the day of your personal medical assessment, we attend to every detail to ensure all your questions are answered and your experience is one that you will want to recommend to friends and family.
The Wellpoint office will have already been in touch with you to complete our comprehensive medical questionnaire, outlining your family history, your medical background, and any issues that you wish to discuss with your Wellpoint Physician.
This advance preparation ensures that your Wellpoint physician and the entire clinical team is fully prepared to welcome you to Wellpoint.
Ideally, you will have been able to visit Wellpoint prior to your screening day for an extensive spectrum of biochemical tests at our convenient blood lab facility located within our Family Practice area of the clinic. If so, your results will be available to discuss with your team.
However, if you are coming to Wellpoint from out-of-town, you can easily do your lab work the same day and your Wellpoint physician will review your results with you as part of your scheduled follow-up and report presentation.
Be sure to bring comfortable shoes to change into. A Wellpoint shirt and shorts are provided and are yours to take home at the end of the day.Your Wellpoint physician begins your day with a comprehensive physical examination including checking your blood pressure, (measured in both arms to detect subtle differences), heart rate and internal organs, as well as conducting a neurological assessment.
Healthcare is about choice. You can choose to be examined by either a male or female physician – it’s up to you.
Your doctor is there to listen to you, learn about your past history, gain knowledge of your issues and concerns, and to discover your hopes and plans for your health and the health of your loved ones. We take the time to understand you as a person, and as a patient, and what your plans are for managing your health.

Wellpoint helps you take charge of your health by giving you access to the best technology available so you fully understand your current health and risks of developing serious illness. All this is combined with good old fashioned attention, the kind of attention that your Wellpoint physician is empowered to provide. You will have a full hour with your doctor, who will then hand you over to other members of the Wellpoint health care team to complete your care.
Once your Wellpoint team completes their day with you, your doctor will consolidate their input into the Wellpoint Health BluePrint Report and present it to you in your choice of a follow-up visit at the Wellpoint Clinic, or a convenient telephone call.
The next stage in your Health BluePrint is a consultation with our Registered Dietitian. The two biggest health risks for Canadians are cardiac illness and cancer! There are several options to reducing your risk of developing these and other serious illnesses through good nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Your Wellpoint Registered Dietitian reviews your health questionnaire and food records that you have prepared, along with any available lab results, then discusses how current eating habits may be impacting your health. Together you will develop a plan to improve your nutrition by making healthy food choices. Optimal nutrition is part of the healthy lifestyle which can help you live better longer.
These recommendations will be included in your Health BluePrint Report, along with other lifestyle options from the Wellpoint team.
40% of Canadians will die from cardiac illness despite the many options available to help you live better longer.
Wellpoint conducts an ultrasound of your heart while it is at rest. This ultrasound, which takes about 40 minutes to complete, will provide a picture for your Wellpoint cardiologist to see into your body and determine if your heart is functioning as it should be or if there are any problem areas. Genetic factors that impact on your cardiac health can often go undiagnosed as there may be little or no symptoms of the problem. This test provides valuable information on how your heart is functioning with every beat.We then test the rest of your circulatory system. Wellpoint cardiac technologists place you on a treadmill to raise your heart rate slightly and monitor your heart and circulatory systems. This test screens for early signs of coronary heart disease and identifies any hardening or narrowing of the coronary arteries.
These tests are designed to paint a picture of your risk of cardiac illness for the Wellpoint cardiologist. If any abnormalities or concerns are noted during this process, the cardiologist may have you wear a monitor for 24 hours as you go about your normal activities to make sure nothing is missed.

But it doesn’t end there. Wellpoint is pleased to bring one of the most recent advances in medical assessments to our clinic - Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (IMT) testing. Carotid IMT is determined by a painless ultrasound of the neck which provides detailed information on your future risk of heart attack and stroke by measuring the amount of plaque build up in the main artery to the brain. This procedure is uniquely available in Ontario to Wellpoint guests and reflects our commitment to the highest level of patient care through the most up-to-date medical diagnostic procedures available.
After each station in your thorough medical screening, you return to our lounge where you can relax between health care professionals and enjoy a healthy lunch or a snack.
