Frequently Asked Questions

WellPoint is located in downtown Toronto, but we provide services nationally through our affiliate health centers across the country and many of our clients fly in for health and wellness assessments. In addition, we are connected with a number of leading American health facilities like Massachusetts General Hospital and Duke University Health System to name a few.
WellPoint is a wellness centre that offers clients wellness services and other healthcare programs that OHIP/Medicare does not cover. Our comprehensive Health Assessments, using the latest in diagnostic technology, can help clients reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular and other illnesses. We can also create dietary plans and exercise regimes to help clients lose weight or get into shape. And a healthier population reduces the burden and strain on OHIP/Medicare.
As individuals, we are primarily responsible for our health and fitness. Just as you don’t wait until retirement to start thinking about financial planning, you should not wait until you are ill to start thinking about health and wellness. By offering a comprehensive variety of health and wellness services not covered by OHIP, WellPoint helps clients take a proactive approach to improving their health and fitness and avoiding preventable illnesses.
The WellPoint comprehensive physical assessment gives clients personal wellness baseline and a blueprint to improve health and prevent illness. We use special imaging and biochemical markers to help identify the warning signs of illness. For example, high Homocysteine levels have shown a strong correlation with cardiac disease but Homocysteine tests are not covered by OHIP. Other tests are used to diagnose the risk of heart attack and stroke, cancer and other issues, and we work with our clients to prevent the risk of illness. For instance, our nutritionist can prescribe a healthy diet plan and our kinesiologists can develop a customized fitness program designed to boost energy and performance. We can even assess workplace ergonomics to minimize risk of workplace injuries and occupational musculoskeletal illness.
We don’t set any minimum number of employee requirements for participation in our programs. Our programs can be used by individuals, small businesses or large corporations.
We have a whole suite of programs that you can choose from that range in cost from less than $1,000 to $4,500. To ensure you are selecting the most appropriate program for you, please contact our clinic and one of our representatives can discuss program details and pricing with you. Keep in mind that our wellness programs are a measurable wellness benefit and help organizations save money.
Your first visit with us at Wellpoint will take 4 to 5 hours – time well spent in the management of your personal health. In a couple of weeks, your Health Blueprint Report will be sent to you and a follow up consultation arranged with your Wellpoint doctor. Follow-up appointments are less time-consuming and will depend largely on how many challenges an individual is experiencing and how many questions they have for us.
Yes. The results of numerous related studies all indicate that worksite wellness programs could produce significant improvement in employees’ health and their behavior to reduce risks. These results also apply to individuals and families.
No. Although we encourage everyone to take control of their healthcare, there are several programs on the market today that do not provide the services required to produce optimum results. To achieve maximum return on investment a wellness program must have strong participation, an educational component, motivation and commitment to improve health, and a personalized assessment. Wellpoint uses the latest in diagnostic technology and an integrated interdisciplinary team of doctors, nutritionists, nurses and other wellness professionals to help clients boost their health and fitness levels and reduce the risk of preventable illness. We also provide clients with healthcare advocacy, support and options, including access to leading healthcare centres in the US to reinforce and establish positive health habits.
The programs offered by Wellpoint have shown positive health behaviour changes in as little as a few months. For corporate members, a decrease in absenteeism is usually the first result observed. Significant health plan cost savings through a reduction in claims usually happens 2 or 3 years after plan initiation. To achieve these long term results, we suggest continuous participation in our programs so that employees do not revert to their former negative wellness habits.
Health care costs with corporations are driven by employee absenteeism, health plan costs, recruitment and retention of key executives, as well as soft costs such as employee productivity, general disruption of the team dynamic and lost sales and customers related to service. Costs to individuals may include pain and suffering, loss of quality of life and unnecessary loss of life. For every dollar spent on a Corporate Wellness Program, the returns have been cost savings of between $2.30 and $10.10 in the areas of decreased absenteeism, fewer sick days, reduced WSIB claims, lowered health and insurance costs, and improvements to employee performance and productivity.
WellPoint’s health and wellness services are used by individuals and families as well as employees and executives of large and small companies. The common denominator is that our services are used by people of all ages who want to take a proactive approach to improving their health and well being and reducing the risk of preventable illness.
